About Atlanta Greenspace
Atlanta Greenspace is an independent, locally focused guide to the parks, trails, greenways, and conservation resources of the Atlanta, Georgia metro area. We write for residents, newcomers, walkers, cyclists, birders, gardeners, and anyone who wants to understand and engage with the green spaces that make Atlanta livable.
This site continues the spirit of Atlanta's Project Greenspace initiative, which aimed to connect residents to local parks and urban nature, document the city's green assets, and make the case for investing in open space as a civic priority. That mission is as relevant today as it was when the initiative launched.
What we cover
- Practical guides to Atlanta's major parks — Piedmont, Chastain, Grant, and beyond
- The Atlanta BeltLine: what has been built, what is planned, and how to use it
- The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and other river-corridor parks
- Urban ecology topics: tree canopy loss, heat islands, stormwater, and native habitat
- Community gardens and urban agriculture sites across the metro
- Land conservation: Georgia land trusts, conservation easements, and how to participate
- Birdwatching and wildlife in Atlanta's urban green spaces
- Trails within 60 miles of the city, organized for practical use
Our approach
We aim to write at a level that is useful to residents who are not professional ecologists or urban planners but who care about these issues and want practical information. We do not advocate for specific political positions, though we do report on the planning and policy debates that shape Atlanta's green space future. We do not accept advertising or sponsored content.
All content on this site is written for a general Atlanta audience. When we cover technical topics in ecology or conservation science, we try to explain the underlying concepts rather than assume prior knowledge.
